Thrice took to the stage at Franklin Music Hall to celebrate 15 years since their studio album Vheissu, a fan favorite release from the post-hardcore giants.
They brought along newcomers Holy Fawn, a heavy melodic band with a dreamlike sound and an ethereal performance to match. Holy Fawn’s music is loud and gorgeous, and their pensive performance hypnotizes a crowd.
Second in line came Drug Church. Despite that they’re from Albany, they get hometown hero treatment in Philadelphia. They’re so beloved here, with good reason. Their music is killer, it’s socially aware, and it’s easily crowd-surf-able.
Local legends, mewithoutYou, played one of their signature, percussion-heavy sets, heavy with movement and theatrics. They reminded fans that they’ll soon play their farewell show here in Philly, a somber goodbye for a band who has captivated so many for their entire tenure. They perform a lively, beautifully constructed, and haunting set.
Thrice had a powerhouse performance, playing Vheissu front-to-back to a jam-packed house. Fans screamed along, lights twinkled behind the silhouetted band, tendrils of spotlights reaching out to the back of the room, the sound rattling around the walls. The band’s infectious energy took hold of the crowd throughout the entirety of the night, stretching into deep cuts and hits after the close of Vheissu.
