The Parsnip Revolt is letting the sun shine in with their newest release. Just in time for the sun to break through after hurricane Sandy, too. Come into the light and over to World Café Live this weekend where the band will be celebrating A Sunshine Report.
The new ten-track album was funded by Kickstarter, the great fundraising platform allowing fans to support their favorite artists and receive great rewards in return. The Parsnip Revolt is definitely giving out some good ones. “Digital downloads to start with,” says the bands vocalist/guitarist Geremiah Giampa. “Then it picks up to adding on shirts and demos prior to making the album.”
Those who donated even more money were able to get in on a wiffle ball game with the band or an in home concert. Another reward level allowed fans to pick a song, any song and the band will be covering it this weekend at the World Café.
“They picked the absolute worst songs ever that no one has heard of,” Giampa jokes. The fans who reached the fundraising level of picking out a song had to at least give the band a few options to work with. The Parsnip Revolt will be honoring the promise, though, and performing a speed metal song that they are playing around with to make their own. Want to know which one? Head to the show and find out.
Each show ticket purchased comes with the new album. Buying tickets in advanced would be encouraged so you are guaranteed a copy. The release party will also be featuring musician Rodger Delany who released an all acoustic album in May, and another Philly rock band, The Lux.
“We’re bringing in a friend to play with us,” says Giampa of Saturday’s show to “add percussion and extra guitar to our sound.”
With a new album out, The Parsnip Revolt is of course working on a new tour. Though dates aren’t currently listed on their site, Giampa promises some updates soon.
“We’re booking Boston, New Haven, Baltimore, DC,” he says of some of the tour plans. “We try to his as many places in a three hour range [of Philadelphia] and as we get deeper into the winter, more west.” The band would love to get to Chicago and hope that’s in the works, too. “We are excited to finally have a real product to share,” says Giampa.
This album isn’t their first release, though it is the first time they worked with an outside opinion. They worked with producer, Derek Chafin for just about 9 months. Chafin brought so much more out of the band’s songs on A Sunshine Report. The band also released their demo in 2006, followed by a self-titled album and two EPs. A Sunshine Report is clearly the band’s most creative title.
Giampa laughs at this comment. “Everyone in the band is all doom and gloom,” he says, “But our drummer [Tom Mellon] is a ray of sunshine. We aren’t really depressed! He just turns everything negative into a positive when we all say ‘this sucks!’”
Come listen to the not-so-dark Parsnip and grab their new sun-filled tracks. The show starts at 9pm on Saturday.
