Some people call it punk, some call it pop; the truth is that The Front Bottoms don’t really fit into either one of those genres, which is why I’m glad they are an Indie band, and I hope it stays that way.
The Front Bottoms pulled together a little Dead Milkmen, a little Fountains of Wayne and a little Weezer to create an album full of unique songs that you’ll need to listen to over and over to hear the full story that lies in the lyrics. And you’ll want to hit play over and over because amongst the lyrical gold that makes up this album are great hooks that’ll have you singing these songs long after the album is over.
Every song is a story (possibly through personal experiences) and one example of lyrical gold is in the first single “Skeletons” in which the band uses the following metaphors to explain a relationship to someone. “You are the Cops, you are my student loans, you are head shaped hole in a sheet rock wall.”
These lads are currently on tour and if you’re lucky enough to be in the Hoboken area you can catch them at Maxwell;s on 5/31 and 6/1, if not you’ll have to wait until July 11 to see them in Philly at the World Café Live.
