Los Angeles-based band, Deux Nomiz, released their debut EP, Alien Seduction, on December 10, 2021. Alien Seduction consists of three songs: “Alien Seduction,” “Top Secret Nomi Man,” and “Miami Luv.” The total run time of the album is 7 minutes and 12 seconds.
The album features Chris Wilson on drums and rototoms, on bass and background vocals, and Charlie Goon and Valery Kvochkova on guitars, synths, and lead vocals. KT Kinetic did background vocals on the title track of the album. The recording, mixing, and mastering were done live using a 2″ tape by Valery Kvochkova at Loantaka Sound. The lyrics and music were written by Deux Nomiz.
This album is perfect for those who love Devo from the 80s. Their music is inspired by The Plastics, Indochine, and Lou Miami and combines these pieces with elements of Italo Disco and the 80s Japanese underground scene. The sound of the album also resembles the B-52s.
According to an interview with the husband/wife duo, the album was recorded, mixed, and mastered in a span of three days. The songs seek to highlight songs such as Mike Maureen’s “Love Spy” and artists like Lou Miami.
Prior to “Alien Seduction,” they released a cover of “I Will Follow.” While the original song is a different style than that of their own music, they were able to make the song their own, while also trying to stay true to the original song.
As a fan of Devo, the B-52s, and this style of music, I wish this album could have been longer in the best way. The album is fun and light-hearted, and I look forward to hearing more of their work. I wish the album was more than three songs and more than 10 minutes long, but the shorter album makes it easy to listen to for those who are busy and want something quick and digestible.
Overall, I would recommend this album to those who love artists like the B-52s and Devo. The album has a very specific sound that closely resembles those artists’ sounds. I look forward to hearing more from Deux Nomiz and seeing what they do with their music moving forward.
