The Fort Worth-based indie-folk project, Walking Apollo, unveils their brand new, incredible EP, You’re My Pride and Joy, Etc., out now.
The EP features four songs, plus a demo of their track, “Impossible.”
Upon listening to the first notes of the opening track, “Glowing In The Dark,” I knew I was in for a treat. Lead vocalist and lyricist Buddy Taccolini has created a beautiful, glowing song filled with soft strumming guitars and strings. This song is just hanging out on a beautiful Saturday spring day.
The second song, “Impossible: The Fairytale of Campus Martius Park,” on the album is a great example of his fun, carefree storytelling.
He then takes a different, darker turn on the track, “Sew,” where he talks about mental health: “all I want in the world/is freedom from within/all I need in the world/is peace in my head/all I want from myself/is silence behind my eyes/all I need from myself/is needle and thread/I sew my eyes shut…”
The “Lovely People” track has encouraging lyrics, explaining, “you are as lovely as were you that day/beautiful and pure/you’re as lovely as were/as that day…”
Taccolini says:
“When I wrote music in the past, they always seemed to come out as darker songs. For some reason I couldn’t write happy music, no matter how hard I tried. This album was so simple for me to write sunnier lyrics. Having my wife as my muse has made my world brighter and it shows in my lyrics.” – Buddy Taccolini
I really enjoy this EP; it’s perfect for relaxing, chilling with friends, on a beautiful day. I definitely recommend this to any indie-folk lover, as this won’t disappoint!
