The most important thing to Danny Fields was surrounding himself with interesting people. Most would be inspiration. Director/writer Brendan Toller chronicles the life and career of Danny Fields in his second feature film Danny Says, as told through a series of retrospective interviews with Danny and other icons such as Iggy Pop, Jann Wenner, and Alice Cooper.
From Harvard Law dropout to Andy Warhol’s Factory, through the discovery of The Ramones at BCBG, we get a glimpse of Danny’s impact on music and culture. Hailed for his “hallelujah moments” as Director of Publicity at Elektra Records this self-proclaimed press manager of The Doors lived the rebellious life of rock and roll. He would never shy away from a controversy – most notably one that descended upon The Beatles after Danny, writer and editor at Datebook Magazine published the John Lennon quote ‘The Beatles are bigger than Jesus’.
Danny Says is an amusing retrospective filled with intriguing stories, familiar faces, timeless rock photos, and a killer soundtrack (which you can listen to here). In the ’60s and ’70s, music set out to take over the world and Danny Fields shaped it’s counter culture.
