Music fans around the world this week are hanging their heads in mourning over the loss of Adam Yauch (a.k.a. “MCA”), co-founder and member of the pioneering 80’s rap trio, the Beastie Boys.
A few days ago, MCA lost his three-year battle against cancer of the parotid gland (a salivary gland in the throat). As the news continues to spread of his death, we remember Yauch as one of the greats. Most of his life and career were dedicated to innovation and leadership among cutting edge musicians and fans alike. Best known as the vocalist and bassist for the Beastie Boys, we are reminded that without Adam Yauch, we would’ve missed out on some of what has truly shaped who we are as a generation of music lovers. Think about it… What would we have done without Fight for Your Right or Sabotage?
The last years of his life were devoted to film, as well, co-founding Oscilloscope Pictures. Sadly, Yauch’s untimely passing came before most of us were able to see his artistic genius come to fruition on the big screen.
MCA will be dearly missed, and we thank him for all he has done for the world of hip-hop music.
