Breathing Statues

Honestly, I’m not sure if I was the right person for this album review. I just couldn’t get into it. The whole album sounded like the background music in a trendy Goodwill. This is my first time listening to Young Magic and their newest album Breathing Status was an experience I couldn’t appreciate, although I’m sure there are others out there who probably love their new album.
The electro pop/dance duo have a tight sound, clearly they have been doing what they do for a while- four years and still going is pretty impressive. Representing New York, Melati Malay and Isaac Emmanuel have a growing fan base who would gladly disagree with my thrift shop comparison. Although their sound isnt my cup of tea, I must admit a few of there songs grabbed my attention. “Something in The Water”, “Cobra”, and “ Waiting for the Ground to Open” were nice to listen to. This album shows off fantastic production talents with great beats, transitions, and techniques. Unfortunately, there is not much substance besides that.
If I can’t listen to something that works for whatever I’m doing- cleaning, dancing, sitting on the couch thinking, getting ready in the morning, or getting ready to go out- than it’s just not for me. Breathing Status has been getting rave reviews, though, so check out the album for yourself. Let us know what you think.
