The Canadian ambient pop duo of You’ll Never Get To Heaven caught the attention of indie record label Yellow K Records (Japanese Breakfast, Eskimeaux) in 2012 after the release of their first single, “Caught In A Time, So Far Away.” Their self-titled debut record was met with positive acclaim from fans and critics alike. Now the duo is back with their third LP, Images, following a period of reclusivity.
You’ll Never Get To Heaven features the soft, feathery-light vocals of Alice Hansen, a classically trained pianist and violinist, and Chuck Blazevic, a genius at creating multi-layered tones in the studio and on the monome.
Images is a collection of 11 songs of brilliant ambient pop opening with the gentle, dreamy track, “Shared Dreams” that features the airy vocals of Hansen and layers of different tones and the electronic effects of the monome. The opening track’s production combined with Hansen’s vocals is well-crafted and is a perfect track to introduce new fans to the duo’s dreamy music.
On “White Light” it almost seems like you’re in a dream, drifting towards white light, and in a completely different world. The duo has a way of taking the listener to another world with its dreamy vocals and electronics.
The title track is influenced by the duo’s fascination with minimalism and explores themes including dreams and reality, internal and external worlds, and creates a haunting and introspective musical illustration.
On “Beyond The Clouds,” the duo creates a beautiful dream pop track similar to the style of Wild Nothing during its Nocturne era. Hansen’s floaty vocals add pristine decoration to the track and the simplicity of its style.
If you’re a fan of dream pop or ambient pop, Images will be a record you’ll want to add your collection Hansen and Blazevic create another stellar collection of dreamy, otherworldly songs that will take you to another place.
