Carry On Kid

Bay Area band, Worthwhile rereleases Carry On Kid, their third album. This 11 track album kicks up the tone a notch from their first two with a more hardcore edge than the pop/punk prior releases. A harder sounds seems to suit the band well, with this album immediately catching attention.
Starting off with a strong riff in “Evergreen”, the album kicks up to a powerful start. Shifting gears a little stylistically into “Homebuilder”, the music adds back in a little bit of the pop/punk while still keeping the metal sound with the guitar and drums. “Messy Masterpiece”, the final song was the true gem in this album. The song seemed more polished than some before it, with multiple tempo changes and energy to boot. Another strong track is “How Do I look Up to A Man in the Ground.” While short, this track managed to capture the same sound and feeling as the longer ones and fit in perfectly. Perhaps indicating they all could have been this shorter length.
The lyrics, in all, have a somber and more serious tone than expected from the band. But, it works. However, the vocals seemed scratchy, almost painful at certain points in all the songs.
