Flies In All Directions
Review by: Rebecca Robinson
Weatherbox’s new album, Flies In All Directions, is being released just in time for summer afternoons spent mowing the lawn or working on the car. Many listeners will enjoy the heavy guitar riffs and fun beats with clear, polished lyrics that easily rise above the instrumentation.
Overshadowing the catchy and deep lyrics is the sense that the emotions of the songs are found in the music rather than the vocals. It appears that the band had to decided between clarity and passion when creating their sound and chose clarity. While it is refreshing to be able to easily understand a song, the controlled inflections of the vocals make it very easy for listeners to tune out, relegating this album to background music more than an engaging musical experience.
That being said, Flies In All Directions is worth at least a listen and it will be interesting to see how Weatherbox evolves for their next album.
