Singer/songwriter, Mallory Merk, shares her debut EP, Strangers, out now. Branded as the “cool girl next door,” her EP is both emotionally stimulating, yet simply executed. “Documenting growing pains” Strangers is just a small opening into Merk’s life, and is truly a beautiful project for this year.
Merk‘s EP, Strangers, features a 7-song set. The lead single, “Ghosts,” has received tons of “love & support from peers and cultural influencers like Kendall Jenner, Taco, etc.” throughout the year. This song embraces a more somber emotion, while keeping a strong beat and rhythm to it.
Born in Louisiana, raised in New Jersey, and living in NYC, her “aesthetic falls between high end fashion and picking up Backwoods at the bodega.”
The title track, “Strangers,” brings a softer tone to the EP, and keep things pretty laid back, while it still keeps the intensity and excitement alive throughout. My favorite track is “Syrup,” which is both bold and catchy. It’s an incredible staple for Strangers and it really rounds out her sound and abilities as an artist.
She closes Strangers out with the tracks “Twelve Thirteen” and “Fresh Out.” “Twelve Thirteen” highlights her eye for meaningful lyrics and melodies. Overall, her EP is a beautiful collection of songs, both emotionally stimulating and simply beautiful.
