Today I’m proud to introduce you to a transgender music pioneer and cult solo artist, Shawna Virago, who proudly releases the second single/music video of the lockdown titled, “High Road, No. 6,” via Tranimal Records.
Virago has been performing as a trans artist since the early 1990s. First and foremost, she is a singer/songwriter, with a little bit of anti-folk, slightly punk, with an alt-country flair, and incredible lyricism to go with the songs.
She shines on her new track, vocally and with her guitar work, which delivers a “high-energy, lo-fi cowpunk sensibility.”
The track is an upbeat song written during this record-breaking year of legislative attacks against transgender people.
“I’d been a little depressed from the non-stop level of hate aimed at trans people, and needed to write something that gave me some hope and comfort. I needed something to supercharge my resilience.” ‘High Road No. 6’ is that song, about escaping the entrapments and negative forces wanting to take you down. It’s a visual and cinematic song, plus you can shine up your boots and break out some the line-dancing.”
