The Toronto-based hip-hop artist, Erich Mrak, loves to experiment with different ways to express himself through music. Today, he releases his newest single, “Girls,” and the animated visual to accompany it. “Girls” is the first single from Mrak‘s forthcoming full-length album, Glimpse.
“‘Girls’ was one of the last songs we produced for Glimpse, and the initial production of the song started with myself, and Phil playing melodies on an upright piano on the live floor,” Mrak explains. “Initially ‘Girls’ was titled ‘Boys’ and centered around the dynamic of a close female friend of mine going through heartbreak. While the context of ‘Girls’ centers around a recent heartbreak, the core message of the song lies in the supportive dynamic friendship plays in encouraging someone they can do better.” Mrak explains.
The track was influenced by other artists like Post Malone, Tame Impala, and The 1975, with its guitar-heavy production, the processed vocals, and lyricism. The track was written by Mrak and Phil Hotz and produced by Hotz. It was mixed by Brandon Unis and Hotz and mastered by Brad Smith.
Mrak began writing lyrics when he was just 7-years-old. At age 13, he recorded his first full-length song, and has continued working on his music, to practice, and refine his sound, since an early age. Born in Ottawa, and based in Toronto since 2013, Mrak gets most of his influences from where he’s been and where he currently is. He’s especially into pop and hip-hop music.
