The Tower Theater had a blast from the past Saturday November 2nd as Third Eye Blind hit the stage with opening artist, Gentlemen Hall. The theater was full, the fans were loud and the music was even louder.
Right at 8pm on the dot, up and coming band Gentlemen Hall kicked off the show. Fans of the band were screaming, a mix of song lyrics and appropriately placed “I love yous” shouted during instrumentals. The band may have played a shorter set but they got all the important stuff in there, including a new song, “All Our Love” that will be released on November 5th. The limited time was more than made up for with the fun and energetic performance put on by the band from start to finish. They couldn’t have picked a better song to end their set with than their hit, “Sail Into the Sun.” Read That Mag’s interview with the group here.
After, Third Eye Blind took to the stage with an entrance fitting for a popular rock group. The house lights went dim as the strobes and beams of light began, illuminating an unlit sign with the band’s name as fog billowed up and over the stage and out into the orchestra. The screams filled the theater as Stephan Jenkins, lead vocalist, appeared on stage.
Though the band was only on stage for a little less than two hours they made it count and jam packed it songs from their many albums. With no less than 25 songs it was easy for a fan to hear the one they wanted. However, it was only the die hard fans who stayed for the encore, “Semi Charmed Life”.
Hits including “Crystal Baller”, “Danger”, “Slow Motion” and fan favorite “Never Let You Go” were among the songs heard in the giant set list. Jenkins stopped playing a few times to make jokes with the audience but also to point out they had left a little space in the tour for spontaneity. “If there’s a song you want to hear, you should say it.” He encouraged the crowd and names could be heard all around. Whether or not he listened is uncertain- it was too loud to tell were exactly was being shouted.
After 17 songs, Third Eye Blind came back for another four songs and the band made sure to give the crowd something new. Down tempo from most of their songs is something the band is currently working on, “The Dream Sequence”. The crowd was quiet as they took in the new music, before the band launched back into their more familiar stuff. And when they performed the final song in the encore, Jenkins took a huge bow before heading off stage and the crowd geared up for the VIP after show party on the second floor.
