Self-Titled

Local Philadelphia indie rock bank, The Strange Heat, releases their first self-titled album. With a sound similar to popular bands like Fall Out Boy and Panic! At the Disco, this local band’s first release has strong beats and a good vocal combination.
The music created on this album is wonderful. It is very upbeat and foot tapping, iconic of the sound created by other indie rock bands over the years. Shocking surprises await on the five-track release as the band switches between drums, guitar and piano in the open chords for each song, setting the mood long before vocals begin. Stepping into a jazz age with ‘This Ain’t Me’ brought a smile to my face as it was a nice inclusion on the album, a difference in sound and something that makes it more unique.
The shift in singers, using solely Olivia Flocco in ‘Hemmingway’ and Terrance Gains in ‘This Ain’t Me’ was a nice change and even better still when the songs featured gender mixed singing, giving the band a sound that many today do not have. The switch in vocalists had me paying more attention to the tracks, wondering which voice would appear.
