On Laura Burhenn’s latest record under the The Mynabirds moniker, she has brought the storytelling behind a breakup and everything we all want: love, with Lovers Know.
Laura Burhenn is the organizing member behind the The Mynabirds and the record comes after a year of international travel and being a touring member of The Postal Service. Lovers Know is Burhenn’s most personal and open record to date; inspired by nineties R&B and electronic grooves.
Lovers Know opens up with “All My Heart” on which Burhenn sings “And even when it’s hard to breathe / No, I don’t regret it / I don’t regret a thing” about how she “loves with all my heart” and she’ll “walk through hell for just one kiss”. The songs exemplifies the romantic side of her and all that she will do for love.
The second track on the record, “Believer” is reminiscent of some of her older work on Wanderlust. It’s a soft, sultry jam that speaks about previous relationships. “You say you’re a believer / But you don’t have any faith / Not even in me.”
The first single from the record, “Semantics”, is an upbeat, pop-rock, electronic inspired track and the second featured track “Wildfire” is an R&B inspired song that you must listen to. “We are wildfire / we are wildfire.”
Overall, this is Burhenn’s most personal and honest record to date showing the most assertiveness and growth.
