The Manayunk Theatre Company is set to perform The Dolls of New Albion: A Steampunk Opera at the The Venice Island Performing Arts and Recreation Center in Manayunk. The show will be a part of the 2015 Philadelphia Fringe Festival this September.
Guests of the opera can expect a show filled with a lot of different musical elements tied in to it, along with a mix of rock and classic. Sean Connolly of the Manayunk Theatre Company describes it as, “ Victorian era flash apocalyptic”. Set in the utopian world of New Albion, The Dolls of New Albion explores love and humanity.
Can a person’s soul be resurrected and placed into machine so it can live on? Find out at the performance. This will be the longest running show to date for the theater company as it takes place between September 3-12. Come see a performance on September 3, 4, 9, 10, 11, at 8 pm or September 6 and 12 at 2pm for a matinee.
The Dolls of New Albion: A Steampunk Opera also has local roots having been written by Pennsylvania natives Paul Shapera and Manayunk local Gabe Henninger. The theatre company stated, “We enjoy bringing new and interesting pieces to the community, and this performance is important to us especially because of Manayunk’s industrial past. The Philadelphia Fringe Festival allows us to celebrate that history and Steampunk culture as a whole. Plus, Steampunk’s maker-culture goes hand in hand with theatre, which is filled with makers and doers.”
