Ready to get moving? Pop in The Colourist and you’ll have no problem getting motivated.
This is The Colourist’s first full length CD, but you would never know that from listening to this masterfully tight quartet rock out for a solid 37 minutes. You’ll find yourself humming or singing along to the words before the song is over and your toes tapping in spite of themselves. The octave harmonies and driving high hits threaded through the entirety of this album give this band the chance to be jumped up and down to all across the country.
Each and every one of these tracks is as energetic as the one before, save “Stray Away”, which really shows the versatility of this band. “Stray Away” takes a break from all the rocking and toe tapping to go into an acoustic, heart felt duet between lead vocalists Adam Castilla and Maya Tuttle. The introspective lyrics and beautiful harmonies show that The Colourist is a bit different than those indie pop bands out there that spin write-to-dance numbers that would never make it into a listening party.
In The Colourist’s song “Wishing Well”, the chorus says “I’m sick of hearing ‘what if, what if- just follow what you’re feeling for. If you don’t know what you’re looking for, just follow what you feel.” They have done just that, and done quite a fine job of doing it. Be sure to catch The Colourist next time they are in town before you have to pay for stadium seats- there’s a big future ahead for these folks.
