Over 30 of Philadelphia’s most talented artists, musicians, performing artists, makeup artist and more were selected from thousands of submissions to feature their work at the international and critically acclaimed The Awakening showcase. It takes place this Wednesday, February 26th at the TLA from 6pm-11pm. Hosted by the Emmy Award-winning media personality Maria Papadakis and DJ Kali Ma, the event will bring out the city’s best and brightest for a show of all things art and the appreciation of their talent.
Local artist, Joylyn H. Tyler, will be part of this showcase. Art has always been apart of Tyler’s life and after recently taking her medium from fashion to the canvas she has branched out and began networking within Philadelphia’s art scene. “Networking is very important when anything art is concerned,” she says. “Philly has had a rising fashion and culinary scene, but when it came to painting, I’ve had to dig a little deeper to find and be a part of that local community.”
Social media has been am awesome tool as far as getting her work out there and people from all over the world have been supporting and admiring her innovative paintings. A UK artist suggested Tyler register for this Philadelphia show. Three months after applying, she was given the green light to be a part of it.
Along with all of her artwork, Tyler will also have six new pieces to display at the show. This summer, she will also be putting her pieces on apparel. You can checkout Tyler’s work on Facebook, follow her on Twitter, and see more from her on Instagram.
Tyler is just one of the many people showcasing art at The Awakening. Come check it out. You nust be 21 to attend and dressed in cocktail attire, but it’s going to be a great night. Tickets are $15 in advance online and $20 at the door. See you there.
