Philadelphians now have the chance to nominate local artists for consideration in the 4th annual RAWards, a national competition that identifies and supports independent local artists.
Voting, which began last week and continues until October 15, occurs on two levels: 50 percent of votes are cast by the local community via Raw’s website, while the rest are decided by a City-based panel of art experts. Winners of the nominating round, who will be announced online Oct. 17, go on to local semi-finals held in November, where judging panels decide which artists will become local representatives in the national competition.
Usually, participating cities nominate 3-5 artists in each of the Award categories: Fashion, Music, Film, Visual Arts, Hair & Makeup, and Accessories. After Philadelphia’s local nominees are announced, preparations will begin for semi-final show held on November 15 from 7:00 pm until midnight at the G Lounge on South and 17th.
The winners announced at the semi-final show will advance to the national competition.
Philadelphians can vote for their favorite artists at www.rawartists.org/artists until 11:59 p.m. Eastern Standard Time, after registering accounts at the Raw website.
