by Michele Zipkin
Please mark your calendars for the second annual Winter Doldrums series, to take place this Saturday, February 15th from 12pm to midnight at World Cafe Live. Created by bassist Michele Lynn (The Rent-A-Cops, Kicking Down Doors) and hosted by Mark Rogers of the Hometown Heroes program on 93.7 WSTW, the show features twelve hours of tunes from a long lineup of local Philly musicians, including the Brian Flanagan Band, Vilebred, A Fistful of Sugar, Dawn Hiatt, Christine Havrilla, Tin Bird Choir and more. The Rent-A-Cops will close out the evening of music.
This collection of concerts is particularly worthy of your attendance because it is being held in honor of Lynn’s son, who passed away this past fall. Proceeds are being donated to the David Eric Cohen Memorial Fund that Lynn started with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. All of the musicians and photographers for this event are donating their time, and WCL is giving a percentage of their own profits to the memorial fund.
The money raised through the memorial fund is being dedicated to educating the public about mood disorders and suicide prevention. What better way to quell your winter malaise than by listening to some top-notch local music and donating to an extremely worthy cause? World Cafe is easily accessible by hopping on a train, getting off at 30th Street Station and walking a few blocks. Keep your cars under the snow and worry about it later.
World Cafe Live is located at 3025 Walnut Street, Philadelphia. Tickets and more info can be found here.
