Nun

With roots grounded in a mutual love of classic house and techno dance, the duo Teengirl Fantasy have surpassed their club jam brethren and continue to do so here in their EP, Nun. While so often the techno track finds its beat and loops ad nauseum, Teengirl Fantasy creates exactly what their namesake suggests: a fantasy. They build on their beats and take you on a journey with highs and lows, rather than a constant high that peters out all too soon.
The first track, “Eric,” plays with drum and bass set to a techno tropical soundscape. The title track, “Nun,” builds from light percussions to heavy synth, moving up and down and around like a tilt-a-whirl. These are followed by two bonus songs, the ethereal and lovely “Platinum” and “Nun Beat,” which calms the frenetic title track down to an R&B beat, speeding it up again where appropriate.
It is a vocal-less offering this time around, but it is no less dynamic. Especially considering what else the genre has to offer. Teengirl Fantasy doesn’t rehash what you’re already hearing out on the dance floor and they don’t leave you spent at last call. They take you on a ride until the sun comes up.
