DJ DNGR GRDN (Danger Garden) and the USA Rum Tour brought a taste of Puerto Rico’s sound along with a taste of rum to Philly’s Cuba Libre.
DNGR GRDN’s sound of house was funky and disco infused with an added level of performance whenever he went to the drum machine and played the congas. So whenever that funky Latin rhythm pops up in the mix and you hear congas in your Marvin Gaye, that’s DNGR GRDN jamming along with the sticks.
Most DJs, behind their sets, are bobbing their head or they might put their hands up, but DNGR GRDN is back there dancing his heart out, and vibing with his music so much that you can’t help but dance, too. The energy was so fun and lighthearted that at a point in the night a friend of DNGR GRDN did some Eurythmics karaoke.
Along with the funky Latin sounds of DNGR GRDN the USA Rum Tour brought along bartenders to perform a bar flare show that involved bottle juggling and fire breathing. No eye brows were lost in the making of this article but a lime was dropped on a shirt. There was also a salsa performance by the Latin Nation Dance Company and they taught a few salsa steps after.
For those who were at Cuba Libre in Old City and enjoyed DNGR GRDN (or missed it) and are looking to hear some funky, disco house with a Latin flare, check out his “Taste of Rum” mix on SoundCloud. The music was good and the rum wasn’t too bad either.
