On Saturday, June 2nd, Radio 104.5 will be hosting their second Summer Block Party of the season. Panic Years and Ballyhoo will be opening the show for Switchfoot. These bands are touring, playing festivals, and putting out new records, all just in time to swing by Philadelphia and put on an awesome show.
Panic Years is a Philly-based band who, over the past few years, have gained lots of recognition for the two EP’s they have released. They have a new album, The Month’s Mind, being released on June 12th of this summer. They have an album release party on later in June in Philadelphia, and then plan to do some touring. Last year they opened for The Airborne Toxic Event and The Naked and Famous at another 104.5 Block Party and did not disappoint. The June 2nd Block Party is the band’s first show of the summer, and a great chance to hear some material from their album before it drops!
Ballyhoo is an alternative rock band with some reggae influence that comes from Maryland. They formed in 1995 and have since become one of the area’s favorite “party” bands. Their most recent album was released in 2011 and since then, they have been touring quite a lot. They just finished playing on 311’s Caribbean Cruise alongside with Cisco Adler, the Dirty Heads, and lots of other talent. Aside from their free show at the Piazza coming up, Ballyhoo will also be playing all of the Warped Tour dates this summer, including July 18th in Scranton.
From older hits like “Dare You to Move” to singles from their most recent album, like “Afterlife,” Switchfoot has been putting out hits for years. Vice Verses was released in 2011, and after its release they toured with Anbelin, asking each guest to bring a backpack for a child in need. In early May the band released Vise Re-Verses, a twitter remix album. Switchfoot is now touring again and will be making a stop in Mt. Union, PA at Creationfest, a Christian music festival, a few weeks after they play 104.5’s second summer block party.
