Are you ready for some twisting and shouting? Every month, the Paper Shakers will take you back to prom, playing your favorite ‘50s and ‘60s rock n’ roll songs.
Switched on Saturdays, a recurring show presented by Bonfire Events, will take place every third Saturday of the month at MilkBoy, for a night of rockin’ fun. Playing the “best ’50s and ’60s rock n’ roll songs that money can’t buy,” Philadelphia-based band the Paper Shakers will take you back to the fabulous era of the fifties, of Elvis, James Dean and Davy Crockett, of color TVs, Polaroid pictures, jukeboxes and milkshakes, of poodle skirts, bobby socks, saddle shoes and fuzzy dice, of drive-in movies, American Bandstand and hula-hoops. Get ready to listen to the Paper Shakers’ versions of ageless classics, The Beatles, Roy Orbison, Buddy Holly, Little Richard, Sam Cooke…and dance the night away, wearing your favorite ‘50s gown.
“(We) are very excited about the upcoming residency at Milk Boy,” says Rob Lately. “Our hope is to create a new scene revolving around a common love of early rock n’ roll and soul music. We want you to cast aside your inhibitions, dress in your best ’50s and ’60s garb (if you so desire) and dance your ass off.”
All the Daddy-Os and Hip Cats at Bonfire Events are very excited for a year of rock n’ roll. A collective of promoters working in partnership with Deathwaltz Media Group, Bonfire Events is booking various Philadelphia venues: the Electric Factory, the Liacouras Center, the Trocadero, MilkBoy, Johnny Brenda’s, Underground Arts and more.
Its goal is to support the Philadelphia music scene and artists who have something to say through their art. “We work with a variety of local promoters, venues and event producers not just in music, but in comedy, film and other areas,” says Reid Benditt, Marketing Director at Bonfire. “In doing so, the local scene is fostered by all these interactions, creating an organic growth that has put Philly in a great place. Our city has seen huge growth these past few years and we’re still on the up and up.”
Bonfire Events have a lot of exciting events for you all to enjoy. From Jack’s Mannequin or Babymetal, to Tori Kelly or Courtney Barnett, the upcoming schedule is “stellar”, as Benditt likes to say. Bonfire is also working on the Electric Factory’s 20th Anniversary Celebration; so far, famous names Kraftwerk, The Districts and Miley Cyrus have come around to celebrate the Electric Factory, one of the most cherished venues in Philly.
The Paper Shakers will play at MilkBoy Philly every third Saturday of the month for Switched on Saturdays, starting in January. Catch them at the first event of 2016 next Saturday, January 16th to rock around the clock.
