Fiction 20 Down aka F20D is formed by four very unique individuals- lead vocalist and chief songwriter Jordan Lally, vocalist Drummer ‘Dre’ Toney, bassist Deejmon, and guitarist Wes Anderson. Together the quartet showcases their musical talents through several different genres of music. I interviewed Fiction 20 Down to get the scoop about their new album Where’s the Levity and what’s going on with them over the summer.
When asked what inspired so many different genres throughout their music Lally simply responds, “It’s kinda how we do!” He then adds, “For me personally, I’ve always listened to every style of music. And before I started Fiction 20 Down, as a producer I worked in every style of music. So then, luckily when I met these guys and we formed a band, they were the same kind of way. They all wrote and performed and could do different styles of music.”
“We just kinda get together and write from the heart and just play the same way. We just do what feels right and what sounds good,” states Deejmon.
Fiction 20 Down’s first full-length album, Where’s the Levity? features the hit single “Down Like Hip-Hop”. The album’s title comes from the chorus of another of the band’s songs, “Money Come, Money Go”. The music on the album was composed by the entire band and produced by Lally. “We wrote the songs. The way the song writing process typically works is I’ll sketch out a song on my acoustic guitar; and I’ll bring it to the studio and then the rest of the guys will kinda write their part on top of that…definitely all songs are original to Fiction 20 Down,” says Lally.
Out of 15 songs sketched out for Where’s the Levity? only nine made the cut. The good news is some of the songs that didn’t make it are going to be released to F20D’s mailing list and street team.
Fiction 20 Down is currently on their summer tour along the eastern seaboard. The group will be dropping two music videos for tracks off the new album. Late in the summer, F20D will be releasing a free hip-hop mixtape. “Sometime late in August, we will definitely be in Philly!” says Lally.
Now through mid-July, Where’s the Levity can be downloaded for free off their website or found on iTunes. For more information about Fiction 20 Down or dates their visit their website at www.f20d.com.
