Go to Hell

Star Anna is one heck of name to live up to, but this lady shines brightly enough to deserve her own spot in the indigo night sky.
In her new release, Go to Hell, Star Anna hits the ground running with “For Anyone,” which offers a good blend of what is to come. Strong, folk rock vocals and a mélange of rock, blues, and delicious indie pop. It is followed by the breathtaking title track. “Go to Hell” is genius. It’s sweet and smarmy. You can’t help but smirk as Star Anna gently coos about where the subject of this little ditty can go. “Electric Lights” kicks off as straight up real folk blues, but the chorus introduces these sexy, alterna pop, hipster “oooooo’s” and the songs sheds new, refreshing light. There is a wealth of sound to be found here. A raw barroom anthem in “Mean Kind of Love,” a Grace Potter-esque powerhouse “Power of My Love,” the straight up punk rock “Smoke Signals,” and the gentle, piano and strings laden “Everything You Know.” Star Anna wears each of these hats expertly, with a beautiful and soul scratching voice that is the lovechild of Melissa Etheridge and Aimee Mann.
With only one or two tracks that don’t hold up against their impressive brethren, Star Anna can go right to you know where for being this darn talented.
