The St. Louis bluegrass duo, River Kittens, have released a stunningly beautiful cover of Bruce Springsteen‘s song, “Atlantic City,” giving it a complete bluegrass makeover, lively, fun, and entirely different from the original.
The duo spoke about the track saying: “‘Atlantic City’ is a song that has always been close to our hearts. It’s one of the first songs Mattie ever learned on her mandolin. It’s a piece of music that has seen us both through hard times and loves lost. It’s a classic nightcap tune for late-night jams with our pals in St. Louis. It’s as much our anthem as any song we’ve written. We feel as though ‘Everything dies baby, that’s a fact…’ is a great reminder to not to take life so seriously, but also to live in the moment! It’s the original YOLO.”
Devon Allman signed the duo to his Create Records and they plan to release a new EP later this spring.
On February 13, River Kittens will join Devon and The Allman Betts Band for the Allman Family Revival. Currently, it is returning for its fourth year in celebration of Gregg Allman‘s birthday. In 2021, the event will take place in Nashville at the iconic Ryman Auditorium. The show has limited and socially distanced in-person attendance, which are now sold out. Streaming ticket options are available here.
River Kittens is Allie Vogler and Mattie Schell. The two women sound amazing; they sound like they’ve been singing as a duo their entire lives. The duo actually just met in 2014 at, wait for it, at a metal bar.
