Spring has most definitely sprung, and there’s no better way to celebrate that than with a festival! The South Street Headhouse district will host its first annual spring festival on Saturday May 4th, to take place on South St. between 2nd and 8th streets, and on 2nd St. Plaza between Lombard and South.
Don’t hesitate to hop over to the fest for food, music, shopping and art. Over twenty of the neighborhood’s bars and restaurants will provide food and libations, as well as some internationally diverse cuisine. Local beer hall Brauhaus Schmitz will hold its own Maifest celebration. Avail yourself of tasty beer, sausage and roast pork sandwiches, and live Oompah music.
Musical performances will take place at 5th and South from 12pm to 8 pm featuring local musicians booked by Dobbs and The Twisted Tail. Enjoy some scrumptious food and the warm weather as you listen to artists including Philadelphia Blues Messengers, blues man Georgie Bonds, soul/rock band Sweet Leda, The Great Socio and more. The sidewalks will also serve as places where artists can jam out and entertain.
In addition to some of Philly’s seasoned rock and blues musicians, The School of Rock band and Tune Up Philly Youth Orchestra will impart their musical know-how unto the crowds. Local artists and retailers will display their products and creations for sale. And if you come to the fest with tiny tots, the Kids Zone will provide lots of engaging activities for them. There’s really no excuse not to come to this celebration of spring, because it’s absolutely free! For more information, visit http://southstreet.com/
