Singer/songwriter, Tennyson King, steps back into his roots with his first Chinese single, “Shen Ming De Jin Du,” a song made to honor and celebrate Asian Heritage Month in Canada, “Shen Ming De Jin Du (生命的进度)” meaning ‘The Progress Of Life’ is produced by Dan Hosh, and written and performed by Tennyson King.
King shares that the path he’s taking to “rediscover his roots as a Chinese-Canadian musician” has been both long and rewarding, but has also been huge for his growth and development, not only as an “artist but in finding belonging as a member of the Asian community.” King also shares that it’s “important to represent his Chinese culture the way he knows best, through the language of music.”
Aside from its language barrier, “Shen Ming De Jin Du” is melodically and musically interesting and has such a fun beat to move to. It feels like we are seeing a softer side of Tennyson King while seeing him grow and have his culture become another big puzzle to his life.
One of the most amazing things about music is just how universal it is, and even when there’s a language barrier there, the emotions he conveys still come through clear as day. I, for one hope, this is not the last single of his exploring his culture that we see from him!
