This coming weekend marks the 20th anniversary of the GORE-TEX® Philadelphia Marathon, with events starting Friday, November 15, and going until the Marathon and Half-Marathon kick off on Sunday, November 17. Events include a Health & Fitness Expo, the Rothman Institute 8K, and the Kids Fun Run.
The marathon itself will take runners past landmarks like Independence Hall, Benjamin Franklin’s Burial Place, the National Constitution Center and the Liberty Bell, through the neighborhoods of Old City, University City, South Philadelphia and Manayunk, and along the waterfronts of the Delaware and Schuylkill Rivers. So feel free to look past the rest of the sweaty runners to take in some of Philly’s most picturesque sights and trademarks. If you don’t hate yourself and opt out of running, though, you should at least join the thousands of on-lookers cheering on all the people who refused to sit on the couch that day.
For those of you insane enough to actually tackle the 26.2 mile Marathon or 13.1 Half-Marathon, I’ve compiled a short playlist to keep those legs moving and that pulse racing. Best of luck to all you crazy bastards!
