On September 8 of this year, Still Woozy (Sven Gamsky) held a press conference on Zoom where he played his latest single, “BS,” and answered questions from publications around the world. He talked about everything from his new music to how he is coping with everything going on in the world.
The new single, which is out now on all streaming platforms, is a relaxing, feel-good song that is perfect for these last days of summer. The cover art for the single was created by Gamsky’s fiancé. Although the feel of the song is different from his other music, it still has his unique sound that is his own and it is not necessarily how his other new music will sound.
“I always try to make something that keeps my interest and there are all these different things I want to try, so I wouldn’t say that it’s really indicative of stuff that’s coming, but I’d say it’s part of a whole picture,” said Gamsky.
While many people would describe Still Woozy’s music as psychedelic pop, Gamsky describes his music as genre-less because of his variety of sounds and the ideas he wants to implement.
“I could never describe my own music because I have so many influences,” said Gamsky. “I don’t ever want to get stuck in a genre because I don’t want to be limited to just one thing.”
Unlike his previous work, this single and his coming work have to go through his label as opposed to him just uploading the music to the distributor to release the single. However, he continues to self-produce his music.
“When you give stuff to someone else to do, it’s never going to be your true vision,” said Gamsky. “You would be able to tell if I got someone else to produce a song.”
This year been tough for everyone and Gamsky is not left out. At the time of the press conference, he was in California and branches were hitting his roof because of the fires that are ravaging the state. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, he has not been able to tour, but he is seeing the positive in this.
“It has definitely given me more time to work on music,” said Gamsky. He explained that he tends to be a very focused person and can only focus on one thing at a time, so when he was touring and working on new music, it was tough.
For many Still Woozy listeners, his music provides solace, even if the song is about something sad or tough. Gamsky says that music is a way for him to express his emotions, and he feels like it can help others as well.
“I know that if it can provide some level of a buffer or some sort of feelings that help me, I know that they can do the same for other people.”
As a musician, Gamsky gets a lot of questions about music production and mixing from new musicians. He is more than happy to talk to them and answer their questions. He also likes to share the artists’ new music that he likes. His advice for new musicians is to focus on the message of their music instead of on their popularity.
“Focus less on getting big or getting famous and focus more on the music and get that to a point where you feel like it is on the same level as everything else out there.”
