This Saturday, Radio 104.5 is putting on their third FREE Summer Block Party of 2013. Head out to the Piazza at Schmidt’s from 3:45 to 7 and check out Capital Cities, Bad Books, and Cold War Kids!
Capital Cities is an “alt-dance” group from Los Angeles. Front-men Ryan Merchant and Sebu Semonian were jingle writers who met on Craigslist, and their music is just as exciting as their history together is. Their debut album, In a Tidal Wave of Mystery is out now on Capitol/Universal/Lazy Hooks. They’re touring all summer and into the fall, but this Saturday’s Block Party is their only Pennsylvania stop!
Bad Books is comprised of members of Manchester Orchestra and Kevin Devine, two well known forces in the alternative/indie music scene. Andy Hull and Devine have been friends for six years, and their close friendship is reflected in the intimacy shown in both of their albums, Bad Books and II. They don’t have a vast touring schedule for this summer, but can be found playing Riot Fest Chicago in September, so this Saturday is the only time soon they’ll be in the area! Seriously, take advantage of this- their show tonight in New York is sold out!
Cold War Kids is a Rock/Soul/Punk band from Silverlake, California. They released their first album in 2006 and have been on a roll ever since. This past April they released their most recent album, Dear Miss Lonelyhearts. Their single from this album, “Miracle Mile”, has reached number 22 on the US Alternative charts. Cold War Kids tour quite a lot, and have previously done two years of nonstop touring. They’re embarking on a fall tour and will be back at Union Transfer in October, but this Saturday is your chance to see them for free!
This Saturday’s Block Party is sure to have a ton of positive energy and great music. Make sure you stop by and take advantage of all that there is to be done there, like the Miller Lite Beer Garden, tons of free giveaways by sponsors (Vitamin Water, VitaCoco, and tons more!) Also be sure to hit up the after party at North Bowl for a Meet and Greet!
