Rising Canadian R&B artist, Emanuel, releases his new music video for his single, “Black Woman,” out now. The single was shared last month.
The track is dedicated “to the resilience, empowerment, and beauty of Black women.”
He also announces his upcoming EP Session 2: Transformation will be released on December 4 via Universal Music Canada. He will also drop the second installment of his full-length debut, ALT THERAPY, due next year.
The EP features a remix of “Black Woman” by multi-GRAMMY-winning producer, Supa Dups (Drake, Rihanna, Bruno Mars) and reggae icon, Tarrus Riley.
“I know Tarrus Riley from going to the parties of my Jamaican friends where they play the music that’s big and nostalgic for them. His song ‘She’s Royal’ is just huge, people are still bumping it in 2020! I think people really appreciate the legacy of that song and the link-up is really big for what ‘Black Woman’ means and what I want the legacy of ‘Black Woman’ to be. To have him on it, it felt like the stars were aligning. I think the impact that this will have on the diaspora is amazing,” Emanuel explained.
Emanuel was born to Ethiopian immigrant parents in Toronto, Canada, Emanuel began his career earlier this year, during a time of “renaissance of beautiful black art in the world.”
At the beginning of the pandemic, he released his debut single, “Need You,” and it quickly became a “quarantine anthem” as Emanuel worked with Idris Elba to create a collaborative music video that instructed people to submit personal photos and videos. People from over 20 countries submitted materials to Emanuel and Elba for the project.
