Music collective, Satori vs Dr. Echo, are excited to share that their new single, “Nowhere,” off their upcoming album, Dub Defender Sessions, dropping on May 6th. The new record will drop on May 22nd!
Satori vs. Dr. Echo was founded by Steven Jess Borth II which was a side project from his main focus, RX Bandits, to showcase his individual influences that inspire his songwriting. Satori (guitar, synth, vocals) also worked with musicians Justin DeHart a.k.a. Dr. Echo, Chiquis Lozoya (bass), Jesse Hayes (drums), and Ray Jacildo (keys) to create, Dub Defender Sessions.
Both Satori and Dr. Echo are originally from Sacramento, California, but currently live in Copenhagen, Denmark, and Christchurch, New Zealand, respectively. All of the songs on the album are mixed by Dr. Echo, but both himself and Satori produced the final product.
“‘Nowhere’ was written when I was waiting on an unreliable person for an answer regarding something that was important to me,” Satori says. “It had me thinking about how many times I had possibly done that to other people and how I needed to be careful in those kinds of situations in the future.”
I love the battle between the synth and techno instrumentation and a full jazz band. There are a lot of layers that bring this song to life, but they are crystal clear in recording, mixing, and producing that it doesn’t become overwhelming, or appear cluttered. The syncopated rhythm draws you into their strong influences, and the introduction of vocals, which is a great balance between traditional and techno, is a nice touch. What a track!
