Blue Dream

Orenda Fink’s new album, Blue Dream, is haunting. Each song manages to wind its way into the soul and stays there long after the album has ended.
Orenda Fink’s talent for evoking emotions is on full display throughout Blue Dream. Many of the lyrics center on darker themes but the flowing, and at times slightly upbeat, music pull the listener through what could have been a sever depressive state. Even when singing of someone that has been lost in “Poor Little Bear,” Orenda emphasizes the love more than the loss, creating a sense of sad peace rather than the despair that could have been several heartbeats away.
Although soothing, with gentle instrumentation and clear vocals, the album is far from boring. The variance in melodies is just dynamic enough to keep listeners ensnared, yet there is no doubt that these songs are by the same artist and belong on the same album. Blue Dream is not an album for a backyard BBQ, but it is definitely an ideal choice for a day of relaxation and introspection.
