North Philly native Brianna Cash has been making the rounds in the Philadelphia music scene lately and her hard work is paying off as she continues to break ground and build success. After recently releasing her EP Journey After June on Dec. 1st, That Music Mag had the opportunity to get to know a little bit more about the singer, songwriter, and musician, and the smooth indie-R&B rock she makes.
“I’ve been singing since I can remember and I’ve been learning and playing instruments since I was younger as well,” Cash says. “Music has always been a part of my life. I’m just now bringing everything together and seeing my potential.”
A lot of people in her life helped her see her potential, too. Her family, friends and growing fan base always give their support. Her father even built her a studio that she used to record the EP. “My family has always been there for me and they push me to want to accomplish more,” she says. “I know that with my parents, family, and friends’ continued support I will go far.”
The EP was already written last year. “Everything was written and ready to go. It was just a matter of recording, putting everything into format, getting everything out there.” She noted how difficult it was for her to find the perfect recording studio before she had one of her own. “ Every studio had someone or many there that wanted to be a part of my project,” Cash explains. “I wanted [the EP to be] all mine. I wanted my story to be told through my lyrics, simple and complete.”
Journey After June has been getting a lot of downloads on Soundcloud and the first single off the EP, “Kisses in The Rain”, has been getting some serious plays. “ I didn’t originally want to release that as my single but I have been getting a lot of people saying that was the song,” she says. “About a week before the EP dropped we decided to release the single. It’s something with a little bounce and people will gravitate towards it.”
Cash is correct about the song. As the piano carries the tune, the rhythmic light beat teams with her jazz infused voice to make the song perfect for a moment of daydreaming. The whole EP is very calming and natural. She has a unique voice and style of singing.
People have been responding positively on all fronts. Social sites (like Twitter , Instagram, and many more), downloads, and countless performances cement her talents and generate new fans while making her loyal fans remember why they fell in love with her in the first place. Cash is ready for 2014 and looking forward to all the things the new year has in store for her. “I’m always writing and recording,” she says. “I’m releasing new music in the new year and I’m looking forward to continuing to perform, write and show Philly and the world what I got.”
