Calling all furniture designers and lovers of all things creative, the 2013 DesignPhiladelphia Festival along with PopUp Place will be in the city Wed. Oct 9, at Bahdeebahdu from 6 p.m until 9 p.m for this year’s cocktail party and silent auction. An after party presented by PopUp Place will follow from 9 p.m until midnight (featuring the sounds of King Britt) and the whole night’s events will showcase and demonstrate local designers works while proceeds from the night’s event will benefit Philadelphia Center for Architecture.
This is the first time the festival will include a silent auction available to PopUp Place ticket holders. The silent auction will be very intriguing- participating designers were given identical IKEA chairs to transform into their very own custom designs and audience members can then bid on their favorites to take home.
There will be 16 regional designers auctioning off their custom chair designs at the silent auction. Three of the designers that will be participating are RJ Thornburg, a fabulist who is inspired by Willy Wonka for his creations, Beth Beverly, a taxidermist who specializes in wearable taxidermy, and Mark Price, a graphic designer and screen printer working in Philadelphia who is gaining international recognition for his innovative work. Make sure to check out the whole list of designers.
Besides the silent auction, there will a light projection instillation by Andrew Cameron Zahn and musical performances by Heath Allen Trio.
There will be a futuristic flavor experience to be apart of with GhostFood, exotic food pairings with 12th Street Catering and Little Baby’s Ice Cream, specialty handcrafted coffee cocktails by Illy, and desserts to be sampled by Whipped Bakeshop.
The after party will be at an industrial space on the same street as Bahdeebahdu in a collaborative showroom created by three nationally known Philadelphia –based fabrication/design companies: Amuneal, Groundwork, and Robert True Ogden. This will be the first time the showroom is open to the public.
