Self-Titled

Morgan Delt just released his first LP and man, is it full of soul. These eleven psychedelic tracks show the style that many artists in the California area have been trying to master for decades.
At first listen, it is apparent that the album has a gentle, hazy sound, but at the same time because of this, it is comparable to background music in many ways. It’s relaxing and almost spiritual in sound. “Barbarian Kings” specifically does this, as the first thirty seconds play, I feel as though I am being lifted up high into space. Another very sense-arousing track is “Sad Sad Trip.” Although I’m not too particularly fond of the song, it definitely portrays the feeling in the title.
The album has a middle-eastern feel on many of the tracks, which is thanks to the choice of instruments. I assume a sitar is being played as well as other unique instruments. Following this further, The Beatles are brought to mind for me on a few of the tracks. Delt’s songs relate the closest with their song “Noreweign Wood.”
Track 7, “Chakra Sharks” is the track that I could listen to over and over again, no problem. Being it the shortest and probably the most upbeat song on the album, this makes sense.
While the album definitely hits high on some tracks with the reverbed vocals and fun guitar riffs, other tracks are all too familiar and boring. This diversity of this genre could possibly be diminishing, and I would hate for all the hippy-psychedelic pop/rock artists to begin to all mesh together.
