It has been just two years since American indie pop band, MisterWives, got their start, and it has been a crazy, wild ride so far. The band, comprised of Mandy Lee Duffy (lead vocals), Etienne Bowler (percussion), William Hehir (bass guitar), Marc Campbell (guitar) and Jesse Blum (multi-instruments), all met organically in New York. Serendipitously, they met each other in different ways, but definitely always knew they wanted to play music.
Duffy adds, “I had an older sister that always had us do plays and music videos for our family. In doing these impromptu performances I learned to love music.”
In 2013, the band was signed to Photo Finish Records, and in January 2014, the band’s debut EP, Reflections, was released to much positive press. Such positivity helped pave the way for the band’s debut LP, Our Own House, out now.
“We always knew the direction we wanted to go in musically, but [the] positive reinforcement is always encouraging to help bring what we were doing to the next level,” they explain.
MisterWives recently completed some studio time at the legendary Electric Lady Studios in New York City, which has been a recording home to many musical legends such Bob Dylan, Hall & Oates and John Lennon, just to name a few. Their experience recording music at such historic place in the music industry “was chilling and magical” they revealed. The band adds that it was incredible to have the opportunity “to re-work a Hall & Oates song and have them surprise us in the studio. The recording studio itself was so incredible – it’s a place where people who play their own music and instruments should record.”
So now, two years after forming, they have released an EP, recorded at a studio alongside of many numerous musical legends, released a debut LP, and beginning on Thursday, MisterWives will be setting out on tour in support of Our Own House – with the very first stop being right here in Philadelphia. Sold out, nonetheless.
“Philadelphia is the biggest venue we are playing on the whole tour and the fact that the show is sold out is insane! I don’t think our brains have comprehended that it’s sold out and our album is also out! Philadelphia audiences are always amazing and we had a blast at Made in America last year – we can’t wait to come back!”
