Our very own native Philadelphia band, mewithoutYou, is returning to the spotlight and the road, for an upcoming spring tour with friends, Dr. Dog. The band will have plenty of new material to delight both the hardcore and virgin mewithoutYou fan. I spoke with mewithoutYou guitarist Michael Weiss about the tour, the upcoming LP6, and what they have been up to since 2012’s Ten Stories.
March 25th marks the first date of the spring tour with Dr. Dog. “It’s fun to think that we’re bringing a little package to your city. [We’ve] both been doing it for a minute or two. It’s fun and nostalgic. We’ve always wanted to tour with them,” Weiss exclaims.
Last year also marked the 10th anniversary of the band’s breakthrough record, Catch For Us The Foxes, which led to enamored success following the release.
“We played the entire record from start to finish. It locked into a period of time. We were trying to prove ourselves more than just effect pedals, more dimensions, etc. We made the record with a very accomplished record producer, Brad Wood. To play the record, it brought you back, you saw how it reached people, and the response was really great,” Weiss says.
MewithoutYou just announced that they signed to Run For Cover Records and the band’s 6th LP, produced by Will Yip (Circa Survive, Title Fight, La Dispute), will be released in June or July this year.
Weiss explains, “Ten Stories was very conceptual. It was told through third person and first person. [This record] is much more back to Aaron’s personal voice and personal life. It’s more of his general juxtaposition. Musically, more influenced by loud guitar sounds, towards core sounds. Louder guitar music. More of Aaron shouting.”
Mewithoutyou will be at The Depot in York, PA on March 23rd before kicking off their tour with Dr. Dog.
