Mary Jane’s Closet presents The Melting Pot Art Expo this Friday, January 10th, at 6PM.
Mary Jane’s Closet is described by co-founder Jasmine Anderson as “an online consignment shop that specializes in vintage pieces and reconstruction. Our inspiration come from both vintage and modern fashions. We inspire to provide stylish and reasonable merchandise for young people.”
It started in February of 2012 with Anderson’s business partner Khadijah Hope-Moore. The idea first came to Anderson’s mind her senior year at Central High School of Philadelphia, herself a graduate of the 270th class.
“The Melting Pot is our first art expo, our second event. We intended to have another fashion show, but I decided to incorporate all mediums of art. We have been planning for months. I want this event to be a place of networking and to give the audience a chance to see what we young artists have in store,” says Anderson.
“There will be a variety of art displayed by various artists,” says Anderson. To name a few: LinShuttr from Florida, Elle Lamb and Jamira Linder are showing their art, local performers Kourtney Naomi, Cloudy THC and Daven Javo will grace the stage and designs by Mary Jane’s Closet, Club Tobias and Poison Apparel will be on display. During intermission there will be an open mic and audience members can display their artistic talents if the mood strikes them.
You can find The Melting Pot Art Expo at 417 N. 8th St, a block off 8th and Spring Garden right next to the Electric Factory. As the New Year is upon us Anderson looks to the future, “MJC has a lot in store for 2014. We hope to expand our audience and to also network with other artists and brands. We plan to have other events this year, so stay tuned for what Mary Jane’s Closet has in store!”
