Passerby
Reviewed by: Rebecca Robinson
To call Passerby, the new album by Luluc, sedate would be both accurate and misleading.
Although soothing at first, the gentle instrumentation that characterizes the entire album becomes a bit monotonous in a few places, easily loosing the listener to outside distractions. The profound, almost morbid, lyrics pull the listener back, however, and the strong vocals are wistful and lyrical enough to linger pleasantly and blend seamlessly into music of each song.
Passerby balances on the fine line between being either a truly relaxing or truly depressing listening experience. Even after repeated plays of the album, it is still unclear which is the dominate emotion being evoked by the songs. Perhaps Luluc has perfected an album that can stay balanced between the two. Rather than detracting from their sound, this ambiguity works in their favor, allowing Passerby to be ideal for fans looking to relax and those seeking to wallow in sadness.
