The Great Catsby

Electronic synth-dance pop is making its way back into millennials hearts and becoming a genre that is pushing its way to the forefront of music. Lovecat’s new album The Great Catsby is a loose and bubbly record full of heartbeat tracks and cohesive notes. Full of past experiences and harmonious love lyrics, Lovecat proves that they are a contender in the industry. The group delivered a playful yet mystifying new record that is quirky and cool and definitely worth the listen.
I personally have an affair with the titles of the tracks on the album. There is always something so fun and exciting about a band that can captivate just by the name of a song. Anyways, the album opens with “Lovesong” a perfect introduction to the upbeat and airy nature of the tone of the band. Lovecat is interesting because they use reverb guitars with electronic backdrops. The beat is generally driven by an electronic feel, but the undertones of instruments gives it what it needs to really been kind of bad-ass. The song itself is a total pop radio jam, plucking at heart strings and has a full frontal festival feel. “Song For Eternity” which comes in second, is not nearly as good but a good follow track from “Lovesong.” The beat drives throughout, which is simple going deep and light from the verse and then chorus. Faintly in the back the drum is a unique add in just like the guitar was before.
The vocals in each of the tracks is straightforward and on pitch. A lot of what is heard is really easy to catch on to and very easy to sync your body up to as well. “Seventeen” is a perfect ’80s dance track (and my favorite on the record). Within the first minute they have incorporated a lot of delicate layers that give a shimmery quality overall. “Easy” is more of a indie/rock/dance track which adds diversity to the album. Lovecat shows how easy they can jump up and down levels of complexity.
The best part of the album is the choices they made: from the vocals to instruments, to beats and overall quality, Lovecat has completely delivered. I’m a sucker for a good indie pop album and they have melted my heart to the core with funky guitar plucks and back beat drums.
