Female rappers are far and few between, but they’re certainly out there. Just think of big names like Missy Elliot and Lil’ Kim. Rising up through the music ranks is another female rapper, Lizzo. She’s been doing it since she was kid and with a really diverse background, Lizzo has been categorized in many genres and sounds. Now, she’s taking some time to grow as a rapper now.
“I’ve never found it hard,” says Lizzo when asked if she felt being a female rapper was any different.
Born in Detroit, Lizzo has immersed herself into the music world since she was a little girl. “I’ve always done something. I wouldn’t say I changed styles, but I’ve been in other groups.” says Lizzo herself about her journey through the industry up until this point.
Before, Lizzo has been a part of R&B, rock and electropop musical groups. However she is now known for her rapping after the release of her latest music video for “Batches & Cookies”. She just recently released an LP, LizzoBangers, that is actually a collaborative effort between Lizzo, Lazerbeak and Ryan Olson.
Not only was the album something she loved and is doing well, but Lizzo says the collaboration went smoothly while creating it. “It was really great. We were all just basically in the same place. It was a ton of fun.”
With 2013 days away from being done Lizzo has had a huge and busy year with the new album, getting down to just “being herself”, and an international tour. For Lizzo, she plans to do more writing, recording and touring in the new year.
