Lily McQueen
Electric Love

Los Angeles-based pop vocalist, Lily McQueen, has readied her debut LP, Electric Love (Concierge Records), and channels the best of the 80’s on the record through relatable themes of love, relationships, and unrequited love.
The record opens with “You’re Not Ready For My Love”, a multi-layered track that features her vintage-tinged vocals layered over powerful pop synth grooves. While it’s the record’s opening track, McQueen’s first single, “Chasing Your Love”, is a fun, shimmery anthem about love, relationships, and not being able to let go of someone. All of which most of us can relate to, right? The accompanying music video takes on a high school prom theme which seems to pair well with the lyrics of the song.
The opening guitars of the Bryan Adams-esque track, “Say Something”, add a different look to McQueen’s potential, almost anthemic in nature. I can envision seeing McQueen perform this track live in a huge stadium with heavy, electric guitars introducing the song.
On “I Can’t Get It Right With You”, McQueen sings about the frustration and heartache of unrequited love and hookups, “when the night falls/that’s when he comes running/for my love/when the night falls/I just wanna give it/I’m giving up/because enough is enough/I can’t go on/whoa/when all you do is lead me on…”, circumstances that most of us can relate to in some shape or form.
McQueen channels pop stars of the 80’s like Taylor Dayne on “Rhythm Of My Heart”, creating a danceable track for all the fans of 80’s dance music.
It would be interesting, however, to see where McQueen is able to evolve and develop her music by stepping into other genres while also staying true to her sound.
