Self-Titled

Kalin and Myles helped us chase dreams with their debut album back in 2011. Today the pop/hip-hop duo is back at it with their first full length album four years in the making. Kalin White and Myles Parrish have grown tremendously since their debut Chasing Dreams EP, and they seem to have shared their journey of self discovery and self empowerment with their new tracks. The album highlights the importance of self love and positivity with an upbeat sound rectifying the winter blues and broken hearts.
The self-titled album stays true to the sound singles like “Love Robbery” and “Trampoline” brought us just a few years ago. With a blend of Bay Area pop, R&B, and festival sounds, the album showcases influences rendered on their ventures with new beats and sounds. Their single, “Brokenhearted”, sets the mood for the rest of the album, the song rids of worries, gets crowds moving, and is sure to leave any broken-hearted ladies out there busting a move or two.
Songs like “Do What You Want” and “I See You” carry waves of artists like J. Cole and Childish Gambino, other songs like “Curfew Overtime” and “Shake It” call for a night out at club. The guys do well at blending the genres they grew up with and give the audience a little taste of everything. However, it seems like the guys may have given their audience a little bit too much.
It’s key to note that taken separately each song provides something different for its listeners, however, put together the album seems to lack a cohesive sound, and whether it was their intent to hit every genre possible, the album seems to be all over the place. It may well be that the guys have yet to find their place in the music scene, but for now they have done a decent job at compiling something for their fans. It’s hard to note where the album will take them, but a few songs are sure to hit the charts in the weeks to come.
