The Bucks County Playhouse in New Hope, PA is showing The Rocky Horror Picture show through November 2nd and if you get the chance, GET A TICKET! Now, I tell you this from the point of view of a writer who rarely ventures into the thespian world. Admittedly, this was my first experience with not only the RHPS stage show, but I had never seen the movie either. Now I am a certified, time-warping, freaking fan!
From the second you arrive at the playhouse, you get cozy by the outdoor bar and grab your tickets. The second you step into the auditorium however, things change. With cast members following you to your seats, sitting next to you staring over your shoulder or just the normal slightly uncomfortable antics, you start to get the idea of how the night will play out.
Stealing the show but not outshining the astoundingly talented cast was Narrator/Dr. Scott/Eddie played by Steve Rosen who was hilarious the entire show and held strong as audience members tried to throw him from his lines. The other characters were all so convincing of their roles that it was easy to buy into the story and just be entertained. Not to mention, these people could sing their asses off! Kevin Cahoon, aka Dr. Frank-N-Furter wore his heels like a champ, strutting around the stage while he seduced characters Brad (Nick Cearley) and Janet (Lauren Molina). Glorified muscle man Rocky (Nick Adams), in combination with Columbia (Jennifer Cody), Magenta (Alyssa DiPalma), and Riff Raff (Jeremy Kushnier) came together to make characters to root for, while the incredible house band backed and allowed for them to flex their vocal ability.
All in all, if you have not seen the show I suggest you do so. If you have, then come get your bag of goodies at the door- throw your rice at the wedding scene, put a newspaper on your head, throw your playing cards and jump on stage to do the time warp with the cast. If you don’t understand what I am talking about, get yourself to the Bucks County Playhouse and find out!
