Musicians Juan Wauters and Carmelle [Safdie] have collaborated to create Wearing Leather, Wearing Fur which drops today. The two will celebrate the release of the EP at Captured Tracks Shop in Brooklyn, New York, but will not be performing. Wauters says the EP was created while he and Carmelle were playing shows together last year and the two thought they should document their performances because of the musical chemistry.
“Time has passed since we originally created the EP and it’s just coming out right now, so we didn’t really feel right to do a show,” Wauters says. “But we’re going to celebrate anyway.”
Wauters and Carmelle met when he was performing with The Beets, and she with the Beachniks.
“We stayed in touch and when I started playing on my own I [contacted] people I liked performing with, so we got together,” Wauters says.
The EP is like a “journey” for listeners to interpret, according to Wauters, and the songs blend together to form “different intensities and sounds”/
Aside from Wearing Leather, Wearing Fur, Wauters will be performing a free show on February 7th at the South Street Seaport in Manhattan. The event will be inside at the Fulton Stall Market.
He is working on a new record to be released sometime this year, but Wauters is also booked to perform across the pond at the End Of The Road festival that is held in England this September.
